In a society that thrives on progress and inclusivity, embracing equity becomes crucial in fostering positive change and creating a world where everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed. This month we are excited to be spotlighting Phoebe Chalk-Wadsworth, Ed.D., President of Chalk Consulting, LLC, a woman-minority owned business advancing a broad range of charitable organizations. Phoebe brings more than 30 years of experience in philanthropy, community engagement, and event planning to advance charitable organizations in the nonprofit and higher education sectors.
As a native Tucsonan and a two-time graduate of the University of Arizona, Dr. Chalk-Wadsworth is a committed to the enrichment of our community. In partnership with Alexander|Carrillo Consulting, she is part of the team that launched the $23 million capital campaign for the Fox Tucson Theatre. Additionally, Phoebe is an active participant in organizations like Angel Charity for Children, UA Hispanic Alumni Club, , and the American Heart Association Go Red for Women Campaign. She is a board member with the Lester and Roberta Smith Foundation, the Arizona Sands Club, and the UA Bobcat Alumni organization.
Prior to starting Chalk Consulting, she worked at the University of Arizona at the Eller College of Management, Intercollegiate Athletics, and the University of Arizona Foundation. Phoebe attributes her professional development to influential women like Rocky LaRose, former Director of Athletics/Deputy AD at the University of Arizona. Working in a male-dominated field, Phoebe witnessed the power of influential women who were making significant impact. Observing the determination of women like her mother, the late Anna Marie Chalk and Rocky LaRose, Phoebe learned the value of staying curious, continuously learning, direct communication, and seeking guidance.
Phoebe's experiences with inspiring women have shaped her own role as a mentor, fueling her passion to empower others and guide them on their leadership journeys. When asked about advice for young women pursuing leadership roles, Phoebe emphasizes the importance of networking and continuous education. She encourages young women to expand their connections and seize opportunities for growth. By remaining hungry for knowledge and actively seeking mentorship, aspiring women leaders can break barriers, challenge the status quo, and pave the way for future generations.
As a leader, Phoebe emphasizes the importance of open-mindedness and recognizing the changing dynamics of society. Self-reflection plays a crucial role in understanding the impact of our actions and words. Phoebe encourages individuals to challenge their biases and strive for a deeper understanding of how diverse perspectives contribute to a richer and more inclusive society. By acknowledging the difference between equity and equality, we can ensure that everyone has the best possible opportunities, regardless of their background.
Phoebe believes that honest and sincere communication are key elements when understanding equity and inclusion. Individuals develop through their experiences and the cultures they have been involved with and clear communication is important.
Responsibility and accountability are the best abilities one can have. We are all growing and learning, and if hiccups happen along the way, you can only learn from those situations if you are told about them when they occur. Growth is continuous and evolves over time. So, when someone says something that you don’t like or makes you uncomfortable, be sure to share privately how it made you feel because that is the only way to help someone change their perspective or situation. Creating opportunities for vital conversations can help us evolving together.
As an advocate for situational leadership, Phoebe promotes treating individuals according to their unique circumstances and needs. Recognizing that not everyone is at the same place allows leaders to create an environment that supports and uplifts individuals, fostering growth and equal opportunities. By embracing diversity and connecting with others, organizations can tap into a wealth of knowledge, experiences, and perspectives that drive innovation and success.
In her role as President of Chalk Consulting LLC, Phoebe finds joy in strategizing with individuals and organizations, helping them bring their visions to life. By collaborating closely with her clients, she develops customized plans and strategies to achieve their goals. Through her work, Phoebe facilitates transformative change, empowering others to make a positive impact in their respective fields.
Embracing equity is a powerful catalyst for positive experiences and progress. Phoebe Chalk-Wadsworth's extensive experience in philanthropy and community engagement, coupled with her commitment to inclusivity and empowerment, serves as an inspiration for aspiring leaders. Thank you, Dr. Phoebe Chalk-Wadsworth, for inspiring us to work together to build a society that thrives on equity, compassion, and equal opportunities for all.
