Our commitment to excellence is guided by our core values: People-Centric, Ambitious, Committed, and Enterprising—together known as PACE. These principles drive not only how Silverado Technologies serves our clients but also how we engage with our community. In alignment with these values, we are proud to launch a new blog series spotlighting influential leaders who embody these traits and make a lasting impact in Southern Arizona. Our inaugural feature highlights Jenny Flynn, CEO of the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, whose leadership exemplifies the power of collaboration and community-centered innovation.
Under Jenny's guidance, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona (CFSA) has become a cornerstone of philanthropic collaboration and innovation in our community. In a recent discussion, Jenny provided valuable insights into CFSA’s history, strategy, and commitment to fostering positive, lasting change across the region.
A Foundation Built on Collaboration
Founded in 1980 as the Greater Tucson Area Foundation, CFSA has grown to address the diverse needs of Southern Arizona’s communities. In 1997, the foundation rebranded to its current name to reflect a broader regional focus. Milestones such as the creation of the LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund in 1999 and the establishment of the CFSA Campus in 2018 highlight the organization’s forward-thinking approach to philanthropy.
The CFSA Campus serves as a collaborative hub for nonprofits, providing a space where ideas are exchanged, partnerships are formed, and communities are strengthened. “The campus is more than just a space—it’s a place where nonprofits can collaborate, learn, and thrive,” Jenny emphasized.
Strategic Leadership for Community Impact
Jenny Flynn’s leadership has been instrumental in steering CFSA through challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Her strategic vision emphasizes adaptability, inclusivity, and trust-based philanthropy. By prioritizing unrestricted funding, CFSA empowers nonprofits to direct resources where they are most needed, reducing administrative burdens and enhancing impact.
CFSA’s strategic plan, “Together We Bloom,” underscores its focus on bold aspirations, impactful philanthropy, and a vibrant nonprofit sector. Jenny’s leadership ensures CFSA remains a stabilizing force in what she describes as a “VUCA world”—volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. “Our role is to be a source of stability and trust, enabling our community to navigate uncertainty with resilience,” she noted.
Lessons Learned Along the Way
Jenny’s approach to leadership and philanthropy provides valuable lessons for business leaders seeking to drive impact within their organizations and communities:
- Adaptability is Key: CFSA’s success in navigating change highlights the importance of agility and innovation. Business leaders can adopt flexible strategies to remain competitive and responsive.
- Collaborative Spaces Matter: Just as CFSA’s campus fosters nonprofit collaboration, Businesses can benefit from creating environments—physical or digital—that encourage teamwork and partnerships.
- Community-Centric Leadership: CFSA’s success lies in its ability to place the community at the center of its mission. Business leaders can thrive by aligning their business goals with community needs and values.
A Vision for the Future
Jenny envisions CFSA as a catalyst for multi-generational philanthropy and innovative solutions to Southern Arizona’s pressing issues. She urges leaders to prioritize trust and values-driven decision-making.
In her words, “You never really go wrong when you’re clear about your values and work hard on something you’re passionate about.”
